Young Carer Stories
Some of our Young Carers put together a few sentences to describe their caring roles......
“I am a Young Carer. I have been caring for as long as I can remember. I help with my sister when help is needed.”
“I have been a Young Carer for over a year now. At home I have to put up with my deaf brother that is still being taught proper behaviour. I have to play with him and keep him busy and it drives me mad. I enjoy coming to the Young Carers group because it gets me away and I find it is relaxing and fun.”
“I am 14 and I am a Young Carer. My sister has special needs. I look after her.”
“At home I help out by looking after my little sister and little bits of housework. I enjoy Young Carers because of all the fun activities.”
“I do general house help. Looking after brothers with autism such as helping get ready for bed and caring when mum is ill. Giving support to mum and sister who often is emotionally unstable.”
“I look after my sister who has cerebral palsy. I help her with her quality of life as in answering questions she has, look after her when she feels down, and do any chores when my parents are out etc. I also baby sit her occasionally and sit with her to reassure her when she worried.”
